    The Proven Defense You Deserve

Verity Gentry Bell has forged a reputation as one of the most dedicated and trusted legal counselors in the community. She brings compassionate and effective advocacy to her clients' needs and ensures that the rights and interests are thoroughly asserted both in and outside the courtroom. The daughter of a teacher and newspaper reporter, Ms. Bell was inspired at an early age to help those in less fortunate circumstances. That passion led her to Loyola University College of Law New Orleans, where she not only earned her Juris Doctor, but served as the Substance and Citation Editor for the Maritime Law Journal and became a member of the prestigious St. Thomas More Inn of Court.

As part of her studies, she also served as legislative intern for Senator Mary Landrieu in Washington DC and a legal intern in the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, gaining valuable legal experience in both positions. After passing the bar, she joined the Orleans Public Defenders, where she represented defendants throughout every stage of litigation, including evidence and bond hearings, Fourth and Fifth Amendment litigation regarding admissibility of physical evidence, and more.

Ms. Bell would go on to work for several other prominent Louisiana law firms, where she not only continued to represent criminal defendants, but also accident victims in injury claims, and individuals and families in divorce matters. Now the founder of her own firm, Ms. Bell continues to prove herself an effective, exacting legal counselor and compassionate advocate for her clients. She is known for her vigorous approach to pre-litigation and stewarded one of the only cases in Louisiana to utilize expert testimony to shed light on the unreliability of eyewitness identifications. She is dedicated to applying a personalized, attentive approach to the work that she does and continues to find the relationships she builds with her clients one of the most rewarding aspects of her profession.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Is A Violent Crime?

    Answer:

A violent crime is committed when an individual injures or kills someone while carrying out a criminal act. If a deadly weapon was involved in the crime, your penalties will be more severe.

  • How Are Manslaughter & Murder Different?

    Answer:

Murder occurs when an individual intentionally or knowingly kills someone. Manslaughter occurs when an individual kills someone as a result of reckless actions or inactions.

  • How Will The Prosecution Determine The Charges?

    Answer:

Your prosecutor will pursue charges with enough evidence to back them up. This means the prosecution will seek out a legally sound case. If the case contains an inherent flaw, the prosecutor will likely not pursue the case. If there is enough evidence to pursue a case, the prosecution will pursue a conviction. If the case lacks evidence, charges will most likely be dropped or another charge will be taken into consideration.

  • Are Police Officers Required To Read Me My Rights?

    Answer:

Law enforcement officers are not legally required to read your rights at the time of your arrest. The Miranda Warning is only required if the police officer plans to utilize your statement against you as incriminating evidence in a court of law.
